Stuart: The overly attached button

Project type

Interaction Research

Date

October 2020

Location

Salzburg - Austria

For this project, I was challenged to extract the core of an emotion and recreate it as an interactive experience on a tangible object, like a button.
As a starting point, I decided to choose a variety of emotions in a constant changing state to simulate the complexity of human feelings. Therefore, I based my research on films, memes and cartoons to extract the structure like colors, sounds, & movements for the project.

Stuart is an overly attached button that constantly needs to have you all the time on its sight. If you move too drastically or leave the room, Stuart will try to find you and call you until you come back; otherwise, he will begin to cry and get panic attacks (strong hearts beats). However, if you decide to give him some attention and press it, he will show you how much he loves you.

This project was created using an Adafruit Itsy Bitsy, LED Ring, a servo motor, and many different sensors due to COVID-19 measurements with common products found around the house like socks and nutella glasses.
